The oyster farm at Dongshih Harbor is famous across Taiwan. With thousands of hectares of land-based aquaculture farming and Taiwan’s largest offshore area for oyster farming, Dongshih is the top in oyster yield across Taiwan and is praised as “the hometown of oysters.” Rich in organic zinc, selenium and taurine, oysters are called “marine milk” in Europe, “King’s food” in Japan, and “Sishih Milk” during the Ming Dynasty in China. In Taiwan, it is commonly called “Er-A.” April to September every year is the in-season period for oysters and always attracting many gourmets. “Freshness” is the word that can best, if not only, characterize the seafood at the restaurants in Dongshih and Budai townships.
