Beimen Lagoon

Beimen is formed by a lagoon with abundant fish, shrimp, shellfish, and a luxuriant mangrove forest. It also attracts many birds, making Beimen a charming ecotourism destination. From October each year to April the next year, the migratory birds, Whiskered Terns, come to spend the winter at Beimen Lagoon. The best time to watch them is at dusk between late October and early November. During this time, a flock of Whiskered Terns will fly around the area, a highlight of the season. Meanwhile, the lagoon area has oyster racks and fish pans that are still in use, whose coexistence with the surrounding mangrove forest has become a special coastal scene of western Taiwan.

Jingzijiao Tile-Paved Salt Field are the first salt pans in Beimen and the oldest manual salt production fields that still exist in Taiwan. These salt pans have more than 200 years of history. In the past, people built the pans by the sea and brought water inside; after the solar evaporation process, the sea water crystallize and become edible salt. Later on, because labor became overly expensive, the salt pans were eventually abandoned. In order to maintain the solar salt production industry, the salt pans were later revived, creating a mosaic scene. Visitors can experience traditional solar evaporation, salt selection, and harvesting salt.

Beimen VisitorVisitors Center is the renovated version of the old Beimen Salt cleaning factory.Cleaning Factory warehouse. The exterior of the building has been kept intact; the interior introduces local attractionattractions by combining the culture, ecology, and industries of the Southwest Coast Area. Things worth checking out here include the delicate paintings made by the self-taught painter, Hung Tung, as well as the gigantic specimen of a sperm whale discovered in the Beiman area. Visitors can also find tourist information here.

Nankunshen Daitian Temple

Nankunshen Daitian Temple

Nankunshen Daitian Temple, the headquarters of Wangye temples in Taiwan, is the oldest wufuqiansui (Wangye) worship center. It is a national monument with more than three centuries of history. Every year on the 26th and 27th day of the 4th lunar month, the worshippers gather at the Templetemple to celebrate Lord Li’s and Lord Fan’s birthdays, featuring. The celebrations feature numerous traditional performances. It is one of the famous religious events in Taiwan.

In the past, Qigu Salt Factory was the largest salt factory in Taiwan. After the end of the salt industry, it was transformed into a tourist attraction with tourism development.. In addition to climbing the salt mountain and feeling the former prosperity of salt production, there are also various family-friendly activities in the area. Of course, one must not miss the ice lollies made with salt; the sweet-and-salty taste is the best solution for the summer heat!

Black-faced Spoonbill Ecology Exhibition Hall

The Black-faced Spoonbill Ecology Exhibition Hall is located inside an important habitat area of the black-faced spoonbills in Qigu. In order for the exhibition building to merge with the surrounding ecology, it adopted a unique appearance. The indoor exhibit centers on black-faced spoonbills and introduces their lifecycle, which extends to the issue of environmental sustainability.

The black-faced spoonbill is a very rare bird species globally and has been considered to be near extinction. Currently, groups of black-faced spoonbills flying over Taiwan forto spend the winter every September to October would stopover at Qigu, and stay from March to May the following year. Black-faced spoonbills are most active during dusk hours, making it the perfect time for photo-capturing photos of them.

Dingshan Bird-watching Pavilion

There are many fish farms and abandoned salt pans in the Qigu Dingshan region. These provide a sufficient food source for the birds, with little human interference, turning it into a common foraging ground for flocks of birds. Dingshan Bird-watching Pavilion is a half sheltered bird-watching pavilion, enabling visitors to observe birds from the north, south, east and west. This barrier-free facility also features information on different migratory birds, making it fit for all types of visitors of all kinds; it is the most suitable place for bird-watching in the Qigu region.

When you enter the Jiangjun Harbor region, the sight of fishing boats and the fishing village will be a feast for your eyes. Here, you can learn about various catches and enjoy freshly caught seafood! Every day between 1 to 2 pm, the market will auction the fresh catch. Visitors can purchase their favorite seafood and have them cooked at neighboring restaurants at a reasonable chargeprice, or simply choose their favorite restaurant, to taste the freshest seafood dishes!

Qingkunshen Fan-shaped Salt Pan

Qingkunshen Fan-shaped Salt Pan

The salt pans in the Southwest Coast Area have their own unique characteristics, and Qingkunshen Fan-shaped Salt Pan is believed to be the most beautiful salt pan of all! Located in the Jiangjun Kunshen Village, the salt pan extends outwards from the salt pan workers’ dormitory, giving it a fan-shape look. Although it is currently idle due to the end of the manual salt production industry, the unique shape attracts many aerial photography lovers.
