Fang Yuan Art Museum

Old residence transformed into a museum

Fang Yuan Art Museum is an elegant old house with a courtyard featuring a fusion of western-style architecture, traditional four-section compound and Baroque archways. The old building is revitalized with art since the foundation took over and renovated it.

Inspired by the Director's interest in potteries used in daily contexts in early times in Taiwan, collections in Fang Yuan Art Museum are mainly contemporary ceramics. The interior of the museum is designed as an art space featuring the integration of convention and modernity.

A regular exhibition room in the museum displays the replica of the old village chief's study. You might spot the aged scholar's ingenuity in a number of  exhibits including old photographs, an old study desk, lamp, doctor's prescription, poetry, manuscripts, coral stone carving and other belongings of the village chief. The outdoor space features lovely plantation, natural landscape, running water and nostalgic red-brick walls, giving out a modest yet spacious sense of aesthetic. Visitors can rest and enjoy some shade in the outdoor area of the museum.

In addition to organizing various art exhibitions occasionally, the museum also offers a stage for performances and shows.
