Located in Haomeiliao in Budai Township, Haomeiliao Nature Reserve is a land rich in natural resources between Pa-Chang River and Long-Gong River. Many migratory birds flock to the area, so in order to protect these guests, the area was listed as a nature reserve in 1985 by the Construction and Planning Agency, Ministry of the Interior. It is a paradise boasting abundant ecological diversity where visitors can closely observe the nature.
Aquatic bird watching and wetland animal and plant observation are the most popular activities here. However, the instruction signs are not very clear. To see mangrove forests and the lagoon, visitors would have to go up the sloped trail alongside the embankment. The first stop the trail leads to, is a wetland vegetated by grey mangroves. A clear sight of the mangrove forests and aquatic birds can be observed atop the embankment. Birding fanatics especially love the sighting of egrets foraging for food in the wetlands or flying grey herons and black drongos.
