Taiwan Salt LOHAS Village

After visiting the Taiwan Salt Museum, you can go to the rear of the museum and visit the Salt Pan Restoration Area that has been set up by the Tainan County Government to carry on the 338-year tradition of salt-making. There are tour guides present to provide information and help you enjoy a hands-on experience of drying, raking, and collecting salt, and pedalling a waterwheel. Beside the restoration area is the Shidongliao Salt Village, where several salt workers’ houses have been preserved. A couple of workshops still operate in the village, carrying on with pickling and soap-making traditions, making this the best place to experience the glory days of Taiwan’s salt industry.
